Approach and anchoring
Approach from the east in daylight, watching for rocks around the island and its offshore reef. Mixed sand and rock bottom, so pick a sand patch for holding. Sheltered from S and W, open to N, NE and E.
Practical
No facilities on the island. L'Herbaudière harbour 2.7 NM east and Port de Morin 4.5 NM south-east both offer berths, water and fuel.
History
Île du Pilier carries a lighthouse first lit in 1829 to mark the north-western tip of Noirmoutier and the approaches to the Bay of Bourgneuf.
