Approach and anchoring
Île de Bagaud sits between Porquerolles and Port-Cros. Anchoring is prohibited throughout the Port-Cros National Park: pick up one of the 31 authorised buoys. Landing on Bagaud itself is forbidden, the island is an integral biological reserve. Exposed to S swell. VHF 9 for the park mooring service.
Practical
Buoys operated under the Port-Cros National Park scheme, fee payable via the Bonnes Pratiques network or the park staff. No water, no fuel, no rubbish facilities on site. Nearest services at Port-Cros village 0.6 NM E.
Ashore
No landing on Bagaud itself. Dinghy across to Port-Cros village 0.6 NM E for the Route des Forts footpath, Fort de l'Estissac and the Sentier Sous-Marin snorkelling trail at Plage de la Palud. L'Ayguade du Levant 2.9 NM E on Île du Levant.
History
Bagaud has been a strict no-access biological reserve of the Port-Cros National Park since 2007, used for scientific monitoring of a Mediterranean island freed of invasive rats and Carpobrotus.
Story
The Port-Cros National Park, created in 1963, was the first marine national park in Europe and includes Bagaud as its most strictly protected core zone.
