Approach and anchoring
Approach from the channel between Port-Cros and Le Levant. Drop on sand patches in 5 to 10 metres, avoid the rocky heads. Shelter from north through east, fully exposed to the south-west mistral swell. Military firing zone covers most of the island, check active hours with the Héraclès semaphore on VHF 16.
Practical
No facilities at Les Gobis. L'Ayguade du Levant 2.3 nm to the north-east has a small quay, a summer ferry from Le Lavandou and Hyères, and a handful of shops open in season.
Ashore
Village of Héliopolis above L'Ayguade, founded in 1931 as one of the first naturist resorts in Europe. Coastal path from the village to the Grotte de la Cabane, about 1 km. Most of the island is a restricted military zone and off-limits on foot.
History
The French Navy has occupied 90 percent of Île du Levant as a missile test range since 1948, which left Héliopolis as the only civilian enclave.
