Approach and anchoring
Approach from the south or east keeping clear of the fort islet and its rocky fringe. Set the anchor on sand patches away from the seagrass. Sheltered from NW through W, open to the S and SE.
Practical
A no-anchor and no-navigation zone surrounds the fort when the French President is in residence, enforced by the Maritime Prefecture. Check the latest decree before anchoring. Port privé du Cap Bénat lies 1.9 nm E and Bormes-les-Mimosas 2.5 nm NE.
History
Fort de Brégançon stands on a 35 m rocky islet linked to the mainland by a causeway. Built up from the 16th century and classified as a historic monument, it has served as an official holiday residence of the French President since 1968, under De Gaulle.
