History
Cannes was a fishing village dependent on the monks of Lérins until the 19th century. It became a winter resort after Lord Brougham's forced stay in 1834, which led to the building of the first villas along the seafront. The Festival de Cannes has been held in the town since 1946.
Story
The Pointe de la Croisette was named in the 17th century after a small cross erected by the monks of Lérins to mark the landing point for pilgrims.
