Members' sailing club on the inner cove of Hamburg Cove, a wooded tidal cove off the Connecticut River in Lyme, about 5 miles up from Long Island Sound.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Hamburg Cove is entered through a narrow but marked channel off the main river, with muddy shoals and rocks just outside the marks, so local knowledge helps. The outer cove gives shelter from wind from all directions and is used as a hurricane hole. The inner cove holds depths of about 9 to 15ft.
Practical
Self-run club founded in 1946 with around 150 member families. Floating docks, heads and ice. Clubhouse renovated in 2020. This is a private club, not a transient stop.
History
Hamburg Landing in the inner cove has been a working river landing since the 1700s.
