Approach and anchoring

Heading south on the Waccamaw River, follow the ICW to red marker 40 and turn into the Sampit River. Past the green marker, leave anchored boats to port and favour the marina side for deeper water. Georgetown sits where the Sampit, Black, Pee Dee and Waccamaw rivers meet Winyah Bay.

Practical

Land the tender at the Public Dock 0.4 nautical miles east. Harborwalk Marina, also 0.4 nautical miles east, has floating berths, a 200 ft floating fuel dock, showers, heads and a laundry, with charted depths of 6.5 to 11 ft at the docks.

Ashore

The Harborwalk is a four-block waterfront boardwalk running from the Kaminski House Museum to the Rice Museum and Town Clock, lined with shops and restaurants. The historic district and provisions are within a short walk of the dock.

History

Georgetown was laid out in 1729 and grew as a port shipping rice and indigo from the surrounding plantations. The Rice Museum in the Old Market building records the trade that shaped the town.
