Approach and anchoring

Approach from the Gulf of Fréjus with the port entrance between the two breakwaters bearing 315 on transit. Entry lit by red and green heads, usable day and night. Watch for the Mistral funnelling down the Argens valley from the north-west. VHF 9. Max draught 3.5 m on the outer pontoons.

Practical

843 berths on floating pontoons for vessels up to 30 m. Diesel and petrol at the fuel berth near the entrance. Water, electricity, showers, laundry, crane and boatyard on site. Shops and restaurants around the port basin. Centre-ville Fréjus at 2 km, bus and train connections to Saint-Raphaël.

Ashore

Roman amphitheatre at 2 km, dating from the 1st century and still used for events. Cathédrale Saint-Léonce and 5th century baptistery in the old town at 2 km. Base-Nature du Var, former naval air base converted to a 135 hectare coastal park, directly adjacent to the marina.

History

Fréjus, founded as Forum Julii by Julius Caesar in 49 BC, was the main Roman naval base in Gaul under Augustus. The ancient harbour silted up in the Middle Ages and the modern marina was dug out of the old Roman basin and opened in 1989.
