Rocky mooring off Cap Bénat, east of the Hyères roadstead, on the Var coast of Provence.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the south clear of the Fourmigue cardinal tower marking the shoal off Cap Bénat. Hard rock bottom, holding unreliable on anchor, so divers usually clip onto a dead-body line when available. Exposed from east through south. Shelter SW in the private harbour of Cap Bénat at 1.9 NM, or NW toward Bormes-les-Mimosas at 2 NM.
Practical
No facilities on site. Day-stop only in settled weather. Nearest water, fuel and provisioning at the marina of Bormes-les-Mimosas.
Ashore
Sentier du littoral around Cap Bénat links the coves of Cabasson and Brégançon to the west. Fort de Brégançon, the summer residence of the French presidency, sits 3 NM west on its rock. Bormes village and its medieval streets are 2 NM NW inland from the marina.
Story
The Fourmigue rock is one of the most visited dive sites of the Var, known for its drop-off and the wreck of the Grec lying nearby at about 48 m.
