Approach and anchoring

Enter from the West Passage and anchor in mud, which holds well. The harbour is sheltered from winds between north and south through east and west, but the anchoring area is now largely filled with moorings, with only a small and often full anchorage to the north. VHF 16. Conservation zones close part of the harbour to anchoring.

Practical

Dutch Harbor Boat Yard lies 0.6 mile south, with launch service, mooring rentals for vessels up to 70 feet, showers, laundry and a boatyard for repairs and storage. Conanicut Yacht Club is 0.9 mile east. Jamestown village, with shops and restaurants, is a short way across the island.

Ashore

Fort Getty Park on the Conanicut shore looks across the West Passage to Dutch Island and its lighthouse, a brick tower of 1857 restored and relit in 2007. Dutch Island itself is a wildlife reserve reached only by tender or kayak, with a trespassing fine ashore. The Conanicut Island walking trails are within reach of the boatyard landing.
