Guide

Approach and anchoring

Reached up the navigable Connecticut River. Gildersleeve Island, an 80-acre wooded island that splits the river, is fringed by shoal water, so sound your way in and anchor clear of the sandbars.

Practical

Fresh water is available. Petzold's Marine Center, on the site of the former Gildersleeve Shipyard, lies 2.3 miles to the north and takes transient boats up to 35 feet. Midway Marina is 8.3 miles to the south-east.

Ashore

Gildersleeve Island has reverted to floodplain forest and sandy riverine habitat, with sandbars used for picnics. It is a short tender ride from the anchorage.
