Approach and anchoring
Access on the lake itself. Maximum draught 0.25 m at the pontoons. The lake was created in 1950 by the damming of the Maulde for hydroelectricity. No lock, no current. Winds variable on the open plateau.
Practical
Small harbour of the Club nautique de Vassivière, moorings for small sailing dinghies and lake craft. Sailing school based at the club. Auphelle beach 200 m to the NE with seasonal shops.
Ashore
Île de Vassivière accessible by footbridge, home to the Centre international d'art et du paysage with an outdoor sculpture trail. Lakeshore footpath around the reservoir, about 45 km in total.
