Approach and anchoring

Harbour entrance dug between Oxnard and Port Hueneme, protected by twin jetties and an offshore breakwater. Harbor Patrol on VHF 12 for non-emergency, 16 for emergency, 24 hours a day. Peninsula Yacht Anchorage 0.1 nm to the east, Sail Channel Islands 0.2 nm to the north.

Over 400 berths from 24 to 60 ft, end-ties for yachts up to 100 ft. Address 3850 Harbor Boulevard. Nine full-service marinas and four yacht clubs around the wider harbour.

Ashore

Channel Islands Maritime Museum on the harbour. The harbour is the main mainland gateway to Channel Islands National Park, with day trips to Anacapa and Santa Cruz islands departing from the harbour.

History

The harbour was dug by the US Army Corps of Engineers between 1960 and 1965 to provide a small-craft refuge and counter beach erosion caused by the construction of Port Hueneme. The horseshoe basin covers 67 hectares of water and now supports more than 2,500 vessels.
