Approach and anchoring
Approach through the Bouches de Bonifacio with care, as the strait is scattered with granite reefs and carries strong tidal streams. Use the buoyed passes west of the Lavezzi. The Golfe de Sant'Amanza lies 2.6 NM to the NW and Bonifacio 4.2 NM to the W. Leave if the libeccio from the SW is forecast.
Practical
Forain anchorage on sand patches between rocks, good holding once set. No services on Cavallo itself for visiting yachts. The island is private, landing is restricted to the port area on the east side.
Ashore
The Lavezzi islands, 1 NM to the SE, form a nature reserve within the Bouches de Bonifacio international marine park, with granite boulders sculpted by the wind and the cemetery of the 1855 Sémillante shipwreck on the main island.
