Waiting anchorage off the eastern entrance of the Cape Cod Canal in Massachusetts, on a sand bottom in Cape Cod Bay.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Anchoring is prohibited inside the canal itself. Boats wait on either side of the breakwater outside the eastern entrance, in around 22 feet of water, for a fair current through the canal. Sand bottom gives reasonable holding. The canal current runs hard, so time your transit to carry a fair tide.
Practical
Sandwich Marina lies 1.9 miles to the east, about three-quarters of a mile into the canal at the Boat Basin once charted as Harbor of Refuge. It has a fuel dock, showers, chandlery and grocery. Taylor Point Marina is 3.7 miles to the south-west.
