Guide
Approach and anchoring
Follow the dredged, marked channel running west from the Cape Cod Canal along the south side of the bay to the turning basin off the village. Two anchorage basins lie at the head of the channel, the eastern in 6 to 8 feet and the western in about 7½ feet. Channel buoys are often towed under by the strong tidal stream, so allow for current. Holding is over mud and sand. The bay is well sheltered all round.
Practical
No fuel or fresh water at the anchorage itself. Safe Harbor Onset Bay marina lies 0.3 nm to the north-east, with moorings, slips and full services.
Ashore
Onset village waterfront sits at the head of the bay with shops and a sandy public beach within walking distance. The Cape Cod Canal bike path is reached a short way east.
