Approach and anchoring
Approach from Long Island Sound among the Norwalk Islands. The mud bottom holds well but the spot is open from NW round to E, so it suits settled weather only. Norwalk Cove Marina lies 0.3 nautical miles to the north-east.
Practical
The town beach has a guarded swimming area, a fishing pier and a small unpaved ramp for cartop craft. A cafe and accessible facilities are ashore. Sprite Island Yacht Club sits 0.9 nautical miles north-east.
Ashore
The beach playground, sand volleyball and bocce courts and a skate park are a short walk from the landing. Downtown Norwalk and the SoNo waterfront, with shops and restaurants, lie about 3 km to the west.
History
Seventeenth-century settlers grazed cattle on this land, giving the beach its name. British troops landed and camped here during General Tryon's raid on Norwalk in 1779.
