Yacht club station in Marblehead Harbour, on the Massachusetts North Shore, with moorings, pontoon berths and a fuel berth on the waterfront.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Marblehead is a horseshoe-shaped harbour open to the north-east, with around 1,200 boats on moorings. The surrounding Salem Sound waters carry scattered ledges and submerged boulders, so a clear approach is needed. The Boston, Eastern and Corinthian clubs keep guest moorings near the harbour entrance; contact the town harbourmaster for a temporary mooring.
Practical
The club waterfront has docks, moorings, dry-sail storage and a fuel berth. Outer harbour moorings can roll in a north-easterly. Marblehead village shops and provisions are within walking distance.
History
The Boston Yacht Club was founded in 1866 and opened its first clubhouse at City Point in 1874, before moving its main station to Marblehead. The club runs the Marblehead to Halifax Ocean Race and long-standing Wednesday evening racing.
