Approach and anchoring

Entered from Sapelo Sound and followed up to the anchorage north of Cabretta Inlet. Mud holds well and the creek gives shelter from E through S to SW. Local boats with a five-foot draught run the creek at low water, but those unfamiliar with it should aim for mid-tide.

Practical

A government dock past the wildlife refuge is accessible at all tides and there is fresh water nearby. The nearest marinas, Barbour River Club and Dallas Bluff Marina, lie 5.8 miles to the north-west.

Ashore

Blackbeard Creek winds within about 100 feet of the ocean, separated only by dunes you can climb over to reach the beach. The creek borders Blackbeard Island National Wildlife Refuge, open to the public for daytime recreation, with marsh and barrier-island habitat for nesting birds and sea turtles.
