Rocky anchorage off the north coast of Sainte-Marguerite island, in the Lérins archipelago off Cannes.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Drop the hook on rock in the lee of Sainte-Marguerite, staying well clear of the Basse du Vengeur shoal that gives the spot its name. Shelter from W through SW to S. Exposed to northerlies and the easterly swell. Best in settled weather and by day, as the shoal is not lit.
Practical
No services at the anchorage. Port des Moines lies 1 nm SW and the Sainte-Marguerite jetty 1.2 nm W, both with seasonal tender landings.
Ashore
Sainte-Marguerite island trails circle the forested interior past the Fort Royal, where Louis XIV held the Man in the Iron Mask from 1687 to 1698. The fort now houses the Musée de la Mer, displaying amphorae from the Roman wreck of the Tradelière.
