- Harbour
Small harbour on the étang de Bages-Sigean, a coastal lagoon south of Narbonne in Occitanie, connected to the Mediterranean through the grau de la Nouvelle.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach is via the lagoon from the Canal de la Robine or from the sea via Port-la-Nouvelle and the étang network. Shallow waters throughout the lagoon, a metre or less in many areas. The tramontane blows strongly from the north-west and builds a short steep chop on the lagoon.
Practical
Moorings for small craft and flat-bottomed boats. Village at the water's edge with bakery, grocery and restaurants within 200 m of the quay.
Ashore
Village of Bages perched on a rocky outcrop over the lagoon, with narrow streets and stone houses above the water. The étang is part of the Parc naturel régional de la Narbonnaise en Méditerranée, home to flamingos and waterbirds year round. Path around the lagoon shore for walking and birdwatching.
