The anchorage sits inside the river, roughly a 20-minute run from Lake Erie. The enclosed banks give all-round shelter from wind. Watch for commercial and recreational traffic in the channel.

Fresh water is available. Jack's Marine lies 0.5 nm to the south and North Coast Marina and Campgrounds 0.8 nm south, the latter with dockage for up to 250 boats and a campground.
Ashore
Ashtabula County is a recognised Ohio wine-growing area, with vineyards inland from the river. The harbour district at the river mouth has the Ashtabula Maritime and Surface Transportation Museum and the lift bridge over the channel.
