Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the north clear of the rocks of Er Yoc'h and the Bonen Bras beacon. Sand bottom, good holding. Shelter from E through S to W. Exposed to any N or NE wind and to the swell that sets into the Mor Braz after westerly gales.
Practical
Over 250 positions on sand. No services in the cove itself. The village and Port Saint-Gildas lie 0.1 nm south with water, bakery, grocery and two restaurants open in season.
Ashore
Coastal path loops the island in about four hours and passes above Treac'h er Gouret beach, one of the longest white-sand beaches of south Brittany, at 400 metres. Fort d'Houat on the cliff above Port Saint-Gildas was rebuilt by Vauban in 1695.
History
Houat was evacuated by the British in 1795 during the Quiberon expedition. The current village was rebuilt after a cyclone destroyed most houses in 1951.
