Approach and anchoring
Approach from the outer Rade de Toulon, passing south of Cap Cépet. Watch for French Navy restricted zones on the north side of the peninsula, Toulon being the main Mediterranean naval base. Anchoring on posidonia is prohibited on this coast since 2020, look for sand patches only. Saint-Mandrier harbour 1.2 NM west, Saint-Louis du Mourillon 2 NM north.
Practical
No services at the cove. Saint-Mandrier marina has fuel, water and 650 berths. Regular navette ferry links Saint-Mandrier to Toulon city centre in 20 minutes.
Ashore
Cemetery of Saint-Mandrier with French naval graves, 1 km walk. Coastal path around the peninsula leads to Cap Cépet lighthouse, 3 km. Beaches of La Vieille and La Coquière on the south side, accessible by the cliff path in 30 minutes.
History
The French Navy school for divers has been based at Saint-Mandrier since 1953. The peninsula was an island until the 17th century when the isthmus silted up permanently.
