Approach and anchoring

The Rhône is a managed commercial waterway under VNF authority. Hold to the right bank outside the marked navigation channel and stay clear of commercial traffic and push-tow convoys. Seabed reported as algae, holding can be poor, set the anchor with care. Current runs north to south and increases during dam releases from Bourg-lès-Valence.

Practical

No services at the mooring. The Port de l'Epervière marina lies 2.3 NM south with fuel, water and electricity. La Roche-de-Glun halte fluviale is 4.1 NM north. Shelter from W, E, SW, S and SE winds, exposed to the northerly mistral which funnels down the valley.

Ashore

ViaRhôna cycle route passes along both banks and links Valence to Tain-l'Hermitage in about 17 km. Old town of Valence with the Saint-Apollinaire cathedral and the Musée de Valence is reachable by bike in 20 minutes from the Epervière basin.

History

The Rhône was canalised in this section by the Compagnie Nationale du Rhône between 1948 and 1977, with the Bourg-lès-Valence dam commissioned in 1968 for hydroelectric and navigation use.
