Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the east after rounding Er Yoc'h islet, keeping clear of the drying rocks off the northern headlands. Holding is good in clear sand near the beach but patchy over weed and rock further out, in 3 to 6 metres at low water, and some boats fail to set first time. Sheltered from N, NE and E winds, fully exposed from SW to W, and it fills quickly when a wind shift drives boats out of the Rade de Houat. A roll often sets in at night with the NE land breeze or a westerly swell. The area is charted as anchoring-prohibited yet widely used, with a large swim zone marked by yellow buoys. Port Saint-Gildas lies 0.7 nm to the north if the wind backs.
Practical
No mooring buoys, anchor on sand clear of posidonia. Fresh water and bins are up at the campsite above the beach, with no services on the sand itself. Dinghies may not be left on the beach or anchored in the marked channel, only used to set people ashore, and the beach is patrolled. Nearest fuel at Port Saint-Gildas. Summer regulation by the Parc naturel marin du mor Braz, so check the current zones before dropping.
Ashore
Treac'h Salus beach is one of the long white-sand strands of Houat; the shorebreak is gentler at one end for landing a dinghy, and a bar by the campsite can play music late. Coastal path links it north to the village of Houat in roughly 25 minutes on foot, with a bakery, grocery and two cafés around the church square. Fort d'Er Yoc'h ruins sit above the eastern headland.
