Approach and anchoring
Approach from the north in settled weather. The bottom is largely rock slabs and boulders with only patches of sand, so drop on a clear sand patch and buoy the anchor: there is a real risk of snagging rather than dragging, and some crews rig a tripping line. It is shallow, too thin for a deep keel around low water, and crab-pot floats clutter the bay. Anchoring behind the big Chubéguez Vraz rock cuts the swell. Protection from N, NE and E winds; exposed to S and W, so leave before any southerly swell builds.
Practical
No services on site. Port de Saint-Gildas 1 NM to the N for shelter and a small harbour if the wind shifts. Port de l'Argol 3.7 NM SE on Hoedic as a fallback.
Ashore
White sand beach at the head of the cove. Footpaths cross Houat island to the village and the Tréac'h er Gourhed dune on the south shore.
