Approach and anchoring

Approach from the SW in the bay. Bottom of rock and posidonia, so anchor in the sand patches to avoid fouling the seagrass. Sheltered from NW through N to NE. Exposed to the libeccio from SW, which rolls into the gulf and builds heavy swell. There is a broad sand patch off the rock that holds well in about 8 m, with room for several boats. Ferry wash sends a few larger sets through around 7.30pm and 8am.

Practical

No facilities at the anchorage. Porto Pollo harbour is 2.6 NM to the SE with water, fuel and a village, and Port de Propriano 7.7 NM to the SE with full marina services.

Ashore

The Valinco coast is part of a Natura 2000 maritime zone. The prehistoric site of Filitosa, known for its carved granite menhir-statues dated between 3300 and 1200 BC, lies about 6 km inland from Porto Pollo.
