Large marina of 1130 berths at the head of the Anse de la Forêt, south Finistère, home of the Pôle Finistère Course au Large.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Entry from the Baie de la Forêt through a buoyed channel, leading marks 344 degrees. The inner channel dries in parts and is dredged to allow most keelboats at all tides, but silting and a sandbar at the entrance make it tide-critical for deeper draughts, so watch the depth. Max draught 4.5 metres alongside. A cross-current can set across the berths, so take care when mooring. VHF 9.
Practical
1130 berths on floating pontoons, visitor berths on pontoon H. Fuel berth with diesel, with ID required over 150 euros. Full services: water, electricity, showers, WC, 40-tonne travel-lift, boatyard and sailmakers on site. Free loan bikes from the office, and bread and pastries can be ordered there. A supermarket sits 400 m away in the commercial zone; the village 15 minutes on foot has more shops and bakeries and will deliver groceries free to the visitor dock. Priced on the high side, from around 37 euros for a 12 m boat off season.
Ashore
Cap Coz sandy spit at 500 metres south of the marina closes the bay, with a sheltered beach on the inner side. GR 34 coastal path along the bay towards La Forêt-Fouesnant village at 1 km. Pôle Finistère Course au Large training base where IMOCA and Class40 skippers prepare for the Vendée Globe.
History
The marina opened in 1973 and grew into one of France's leading offshore racing hubs after the Pôle Finistère was set up in 1989, training winners of the Vendée Globe, Route du Rhum and Solitaire du Figaro.
