Tidal harbour at the mouth of the Traouïéros valley, within the Côte de Granit Rose classified site, commune of Perros-Guirec in Côtes-d'Armor.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach between Île Tomé and the mainland, then line up the leading marks of Men Ruz lighthouse on 225 degrees; the channel is hard to spot the first time, follow the stakes and do not squeeze the west side. The floating basin is closed by an automated tilting sill, 12 m wide, renewed in 2024, opening around HW plus or minus 2 hours depending on draught. Berthing is on fore and aft buoys, tying either side of the big buoys and keeping the mooring balls alongside; only about two berths take a draught over 1.6 m, in the middle row, so phone ahead. Outside the basin, the Mouillage des Arcades on 30 buoys dries at low water. VHF 9.
Practical
16 visitor berths in the floating basin, max draught 1.5 m, plus the 30 buoys of the Mouillage des Arcades that take the ground on sand. Reckon on about 30 to 35 euros a night for a 10 to 11 m boat, thought dear for a buoy. Water, power, showers and capitainerie at the basin, though the showers run lukewarm and cleanliness is average, and the dinghy landing is muddy at low water. No diesel on site, nearest fuel at Perros-Guirec Marina, 2.3 NM SE. Shops and restaurants in the hamlet at the head of the port.
Ashore
GR34 sentier des douaniers runs straight from the quay round the granite chaos of the Parc Municipal, 2 km to plage Saint-Guirec and 4 km on to Trestraou beach at Perros-Guirec. Men Ruz lighthouse and Maison du Littoral interpretation centre stand on the point above the port. Daily open-air market on Saint-Guirec square in summer.
History
The valley takes its name from Saint Guirec, a 6th-century Welsh monk whose oratory stands on the tidal beach 400 m north of the port. The site has been a classified landscape since 1935 for its pink granite formations.
Story
A wooden statue of Saint Guirec stood on the tidal beach until unmarried women stopped sticking pins in its nose to find a husband within the year, after which the church replaced the effigy with a stone copy.
