Guide

Approach and anchoring

Approach from the north between the pink granite blocks of the Sept-Îles archipelago and the coast. Many drying rocks around the island at low water. Sand lies only in the middle of the cove with rock all round, so anchor in the centre; there is room for just one or two boats and the rocks and pebbles uncover at low water. Port de Ploumanac'h lies 1.2 NM to the SE as a fallback. Line of sight navigation by day only, using the Ploumanac'h lighthouse as landmark.

Practical

Forain anchorage only, no services on site. Sand holding on a shallow plateau. Exposed to northerly winds and to swell from NW. Short dinghy run to the Trégastel beaches for shops and restaurants.

Ashore

Île Renote itself is a coastal site owned by the Conservatoire du Littoral with a signposted loop walk of about 2 km through the pink granite blocks. Plage de Coz-Pors and the aquarium of Trégastel are 700 m south on foot. The GR 34 coastal path runs along the shore towards Ploumanac'h lighthouse 2 km east.

History

The pink granite of this coastline was quarried from the 19th century and used for the cobbles of Paris and the parapets of the Saint-Michel bridge. Île Renote was acquired by the Conservatoire du Littoral in 1989 to protect the rock formations from building pressure.
