Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the north between the rocks of the Traouïero. Numerous drying heads, navigation at half-tide minimum and in good visibility. The entrance is clean but not wide. Keep in line with the channel until past the rocky area, then anchor on sand off the small beach in about 2 metres, or in 4 to 8 metres further out, clear of the marked channel into Ploumanac'h. The inner berth is shallow, so deeper-draught boats lie one tide only. Shelter holds over most sectors thanks to the granite islets and is good in a north-easterly, but swell enters on strong N winds.
Practical
No services at the anchorage. Port de Ploumanac'h, 0.6 nm SE, is a drying harbour accessible around high water, with visitor moorings and water on the quay. Bakery, grocer and several restaurants in the village 200 m from the harbour.
Ashore
Sentier des douaniers runs across the pink granite chaos of Ploumanac'h, classified Grand Site de France. Phare de Mean Ruz stands on the point, built in 1948 from local pink granite. Île Renotte is the granite islet off the point. Ligue pour la Protection des Oiseaux reserve of the Sept-Îles archipelago lies 3 nm offshore, largest seabird colony in France with over 20,000 breeding pairs of northern gannets.
