Marina of 848 berths on the Languedoc coast, between the Étang de l'Or and the Mediterranean, in the commune of Mauguio.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Entrance between two jetties oriented south, straightforward approach from open sea. Swell sets in on strong SE winds. Maximum draught 2.5 metres, though the channel can silt and boats drawing close to that have touched bottom, so mind the depth. Fuel berth at the marina. Call the harbour office on VHF 9.
Practical
848 berths managed by the SPL Occitanie Ports, at reasonable rates that include water and power. Self-service fuel on the quay runs 24 hours, with diesel among the cheapest on the coast. A free wash-down station offers a seawater pressure hose and an osmosis freshwater rinse. Water and electricity on the pontoons. Shops and restaurants along the quays. Direct beach access on both sides of the harbour entrance.
Ashore
Étang de l'Or bird reserve 1 km to the north, flamingos and herons. Cycle path along the coast to La Grande-Motte 4 km east and Palavas-les-Flots 4 km west. Montpellier is reachable by tram from a stop a short walk or bus ride away. Beach steps from the marina.
History
Carnon was built from the 1960s as part of the Racine plan, the state coastal development scheme that also created La Grande-Motte and Le Cap d'Agde.
