Guide
Approach and anchoring
The anchorage is open from east through south to west and takes the swell of the Saint Lucia Channel; use it only in a calm sea. Diamond Rock, a basalt plug 175 m high, stands about 2 km off Pointe du Diamant.
Practical
Land the dinghy on the beach, watching the surf. No buoys, pontoon or water.
History
In January 1804 Rear Admiral Samuel Hood fortified Diamond Rock with five guns and the Royal Navy commissioned it as HMS Diamond Rock. The garrison held it for seventeen months and surrendered on 2 June 1805 to a French squadron sent by Villeneuve, short of water after its cisterns cracked.
