Guide

Approach and anchoring

The prefectoral order of 26 January 2022 sets eighteen buoyed zones off Grande Anse and the bourg. Inside all of them speed is limited to 3 knots and anchoring is banned: the inshore water is split between mooring-buoy fields, no-anchoring zones, swimming areas closed to motor craft and short access channels to the beach. Anchoring is only possible outside the zones, beyond the yellow cross marks. A 3-knot access channel leads to the beach by the pontoon, and the swimming zone beside it holds an underwater snorkelling trail.

Practical

The Anses d'Arlet organised mooring zone is closed until 31 December 2026 by order no. 2026.00033: no vessel may use its moorings. When it reopens, the Espace Sud police rules of 18 August 2015 apply: boats up to 25 m, fee paid in advance, at least a quarter of the buoys kept for visitors and heads usable only with a holding tank. Pontoon in the bourg for the dinghy.

Ashore

The church of Saint-Henri stands on the beach in line with the pontoon; listed as a historic monument in 1995, it was damaged by Hurricane Dean in 2007 and restored in 2008. The bourg, a fishing village, had 3,912 inhabitants in 2023. The Morne Larcher trail starts from Petite-Anse, south of the bourg.
