Approach and anchoring

Approach from the open sea to the west, and watch for an uncharted rock when coming in from the north. Sand and rock bottom with patches of Posidonia seagrass, drop on clear sand in 5 to 8 m; the bottom shoals quickly beyond 8 m. There is room for only four or five boats. Good shelter from N, NW, NE, W and E, exposed to the south and any south-west swell.

Practical

Anchorage only, no mooring buoys or services. Port de Cargèse 0.4 nm to the west for water, fuel and basic supplies. Port de Sagone at 3.9 nm to the east.

Ashore

Menasina beach directly inshore, sand and pebbles, with a beach bar that runs a powerful sound system. Reach Cargèse by tender straight to the harbour when the swell allows, rounding a small cape, or land in the first cove and walk up the cactus-lined path to the top of the village. Cargèse at 0.4 nm has its two facing churches, one Greek Catholic and one Latin Catholic, legacy of the Greek refugees from Mani who settled here in 1676.
