Approach and anchoring

Approach from the east in the baie de Quiberon, clear of the Teignouse traffic to the south. The beach stretches along the low isthmus between Penthièvre and Saint-Pierre-Quiberon. Sand bottom, drop in 3 to 5 metres depending on swell. The foreshore shelves very gently, so anchor well off to find water. Exposed shore, check the forecast before committing.

Practical

Shelter from NE through SE only. Fully exposed from N, W and S, the prevailing wind quadrant in the area. Holding in clean sand is good. Port de Carnac 2.8 NM NE and anse du Pô 2.5 NM NE for refuge if the wind shifts.

Ashore

Landing on the beach by tender. The isthmus carries the D768 road and the Fort de Penthièvre, a Vauban-era coastal fort still used by the French military. Alignements de Carnac 6 km NE, the largest megalithic site in Europe with more than 3 000 standing stones listed.
