Guide
Approach and anchoring
The Ria d'Étel carries a strong tidal stream, up to 6 knots at springs, and the entrance bar at Barre d'Étel shifts with storms. Cross the bar at slack high water with the pilot service on VHF 13. Rock bottom off Roëlan gives uncertain holding, preferably pick up on a lull and watch the swing on the reverse stream. The islet itself is a bird reserve closed to landing, though anchoring off it remains permitted.
Practical
No services at the anchorage. Étel harbour lies 3 NM N, Magouer 3.1 NM N on the opposite bank, both with visitor pontoons and water.
Ashore
Sentier côtier along the ria banks from Étel. Musée des Thoniers in Étel, 3 NM N, documents the tuna fishing fleet that sailed from here until the 1950s.
