Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the south, entrance between the east and west jetties marked by red and green lights. Cross-ferry traffic with Corsica lines is heavy, so call Capitainerie on VHF 9 before entering. Staff assist with berthing on arrival. Some berths have high quay walls and the basin is tightly packed, and the pontoons are gated by key card. Strong easterly swell rolls into the outer basin in winter gales. No tidal constraint.
Practical
450 berths across Bassin Lympia and the quays. Fuel station on site with diesel and petrol, its prices tending to run above others nearby. Water and electricity on the pontoons, toilets and showers at the Capitainerie. A free dispenser at the harbour office gives still and sparkling drinking water. Expect around 35 euros a night in July for a 10 metre boat. Supermarkets, chandlers and all city services within 400 m.
Ashore
Cours Saleya flower and produce market 600 m west at the edge of Vieux Nice. Colline du Château viewpoint and waterfall reached on foot in 15 minutes from the quays. A free shuttle boat crosses the harbour to Vieux Nice, and the tram runs into the city, line 2 reaching the airport. The restaurant Le Magnolia is close by. Promenade des Anglais seafront starts 1 km west past the Quai Rauba Capeu.
History
The basin was dug from marshland under Charles-Emmanuel III of Sardinia from 1750 onward, giving the harbour its earlier name Port-Limpia. The current quays and breakwater layout dates from successive enlargements during the 19th century.
Story
Corsica Ferries and Corsica Linea operate year-round services to Bastia, Ajaccio and Île-Rousse from the eastern quays.
