Mooring on the Canal du Midi at Marseillette, between Trebes and Puicheric, in the Aude department.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Reached only by canal navigation. Anchoring is prohibited on this reach; boats must use the quay or dedicated bollards. The banks are low and shallow with little water at the edge, and submerged stones from former quays lie off the left bank upstream of the lock, so keep well off them. Maximum draught on the Canal du Midi is 1.4 metres and maximum air draught is 3.0 metres under the bridges.
Practical
Public quay with bollards on the village side. No fuel or chandlery. Trebes 4.7 nautical miles west has a larger halte with water and electricity. Port La Fabrique 5.4 nautical miles NE.
Ashore
Village of Marseillette, about 600 inhabitants, set between the canal and the former rice-growing Etang de Marseillette now given to vineyards of the Minervois and Corbieres AOCs. Bakery and grocer in the village centre.
History
The Canal du Midi was built by Pierre-Paul Riquet between 1667 and 1681 to link the Atlantic to the Mediterranean. The canal is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1996.
