Approach and anchoring
Marina up the Scorff in central Lorient, VHF 9 for a berth and help mooring on the RIBs. Visitor pontoons lie at the back, just before the finger berths and the lock gate. The channel and visitor berths shoal at low water springs, with as little as 1.5 m on some pontoons over soft silt, so deep draughts may wait for the tide. Max draught 3.5 m in the marina.
Practical
Around 21 euros a night for a 9.5 m boat, good value for a city marina. Water and electricity on the pontoons, wifi patchy. Sanitary facilities are a highlight, with spacious showers and a sauna heated on request at the office, plus washing machines and a dryer. Free bikes to borrow. A boulangerie and a supermarket are close by, and U Express will deliver groceries to the boat.
Ashore
La Base, the old submarine pens now home to the IMOCA and Ultim racing yachts, is about a 30 minute walk, along with the Cite de la Voile Eric Tabarly. The covered market at Les Halles and the shops, restaurants and banks of central Lorient are within a ten minute walk. From two nights ashore, discounts apply in town and at the museum.
