Anchorage in the La Maddalena archipelago, off north-east Sardinia, within the national park of the same name. Sand bottom. Fresh water available. The town of La Maddalena links the archipelago by ferry from Palau.

Approach and anchoring

Sand in 3 to 12 m holds firmly once set. The bottom shelves fast in places, and an anchor dropped in about 6 m dragged in over 40 kn in 2025. Rocks abound above and below the surface, some of them uncharted. An unmarked hazard lies 50 m SW of the two exposed rocks. A 2 m spot lies near one of them. Avoid arriving at night. The bay is open to the wind, but 30 kn of westerly raised little sea in 2025.

Practical

Anchoring falls under the national park fee, cheaper bought online in advance. In 2025 a 15 m boat paid 65 euros for a day on inspection, against 28 euros online. A very small jetty in one corner of the anchorage takes dinghies. A motor dinghy reaches a quay 40 minutes' walk from La Maddalena, with a large supermarket 10 minutes from the quay. There were no bins in 2026. Day boats crowd the bay until 6 or 7 pm.

Ashore

On Caprera, across the water, a 10 km walk climbs 200 m. It starts to the right of Cala Garibaldi, below the former Club Med.
