Guide
Approach and anchoring
Enter the gulf through the buoyed channel between Punta di San Ciprianu and the Cerbicale islets. Skirt Ile Piana to the west and take care on the final approach, where rocks lie almost awash. Anchor in 3 to 6 m on the patches of clear sand between the island and the mainland, picking a gap in the posidonia. Sheltered from NE, E and SE; exposed to the W and SW where the gulf opens onto the mountains.
Practical
Forain anchorage, no services. Port de Porto-Vecchio 4.1 NM NW at the head of the gulf for water, fuel, visitor berths and full chandlery. Marine Group yard at the same bearing and distance for haul-out and repairs.
Ashore
Ile Piana is an uninhabited bird reserve, landing on its southern beach possible by tender. The shallows around it offer good snorkelling, with groupers among the rocks. Plage de Palombaggia, a 2 km crescent of pale sand backed by umbrella pines, starts 1.5 NM W of the anchorage on the mainland. The Cerbicale archipelago 3 NM SE is a strictly protected nature reserve where landing is forbidden.
