Rocky islet 3 NM off Piriac-sur-Mer in the bay of Vilaine, Loire-Atlantique. Forain anchorage on the south side.

Approach and anchoring

Approach from the SE to stay clear of the rocks and drying heads off the north and west shores. Rock holding, poor for chain. Shelter from NW and N only; a north-easterly makes the south anchorage uncomfortable, though the SW side can give relative shelter. The foreshore is steep at low water. Two service buoys lie off the beach for use in strong wind and heavy sea. Consult SHOM chart 7033 for the offshore rocks before closing the island.

Practical

No facilities. In any southerly weather, fall back to Piriac-sur-Mer at 3,4 NM SE or Port de Lérat at 4,3 NM SE.

Ashore

The island is a classified bird reserve managed by Bretagne Vivante, with landing restricted through the breeding season, roughly 15 March to 31 August. A prefectoral biotope order can close the island to all visitors, as in 2024 from 1 March to 31 July. Ruins of a Vauban-era fort built in 1756 dominate the summit. No commerce, no water, no waste facilities.
