Approach and anchoring

Max draught 2 m. Mooring along the quay in the loop of the Doubs around the old town.

Practical

Modern pontoons with water and electricity. A road fuel station nearby sells diesel and petrol at reasonable prices. The gate is code-locked and off-season staffing is thin, so confirm access in advance. The quay is central, with supermarkets, bakeries, bars and restaurants a short walk away and Cityvélo cycle-hire stands around the city at a few euros a day.

Ashore

Old town of Besançon on foot from the quay. Citadelle Vauban on the promontory above, listed by UNESCO within the Vauban fortifications network since 2008, and home to a regional museum, an aquarium and a small zoo. A music school stands beside the mooring, and canoe hire runs from the far bank.
