Guide
Approach and anchoring
Enter the bay from SE, between Punta di Capicciola to the north and Punta di Folaca to the south. Sand and weed bottom; the moorings spare the posidonia. Good shelter from NW through SW; exposed from the SE when the marin blows. Anchoring is officially restricted, boats must stay beyond the 300 m reserve line, and the buoy operators may move boats off the south field, though some anchor on sand just north of the entrance channel in 5 to 7 metres at their own risk. Where the buoys have been lifted the bottom is rocky with boulders close to the surface, so approach only in good visibility. Porto-Vecchio lies 3.6 nm N for full refuge.
Practical
30 buoys, water available on them. No fuel, no electricity on the field. The bay is given over to jet skis, towed buoys and speedboats through the day, noisy and with heavy wash that makes swimming risky, easing only after about 19:00, with calm nights. The north and south buoy fields are run by different operators, and service on the south side has drawn complaints. Expect roughly 34 to 50 euros a night for a buoy. Beach restaurants and a small shopping centre are reachable by tender on the north beach.
Ashore
Plage de Santa Giulia, a 1.5 km arc of pale sand, is the main draw. Land the tender at the north pontoon, with a well-stocked supermarket about 500 m on foot and a good restaurant set back from the beach; bins are on the north side of the cove. A walking path rounds Punta di Capicciola to Plage de Carataggio at about 2 km. Porto-Vecchio old town and its Genoese citadel are 8 km by road.
