Approach and anchoring

Approach from the east through the gulf entrance. The bottom is mostly sand with posidonia patches and scattered rocks, so drop on clear sand in 5 to 7 metres, holding good. Shelter from N, W, NW, S and SW, and it holds well even in 25 to 30 knots of westerly, though gusts can accelerate off the hills, felt most in the north of the bay. Exposed to the E where the gulf opens to the Tyrrhenian Sea, and uncomfortable in E or NE wind; passing motorboats roll it by day, calm at night.

Practical

Anchor only, no infrastructure, and the mobile signal is weak. Porto-Vecchio is 5.5 NM N for fuel, water and berths.

Ashore

Quiet shore with scattered villas and maquis. Beach of Porto Novo at the head of the gulf, 500 m from the anchorage. Road access from the D468A inland. The clear water over sand is good for snorkelling, with plenty of fish.
