Small harbour of 108 berths on the west coast of Cap Corse, 20 km north of Saint-Florent.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the west, open roadstead. Narrow entrance between two short jetties. Maximum draught 1.5 m inside the basin, so berth bow-to; watch for boulders underwater at the start of the north-west quay. Boats too deep can anchor outside on sand, to the right on the breakwater side entering. Exposed to westerly swell when wind veers W to NW. VHF 9 for the capitainerie. No night entry advised for unknown crews.
Practical
Services are minimal: often no water, sometimes only a single electrical outlet, and the moorings suit light craft. No fuel berth on site, nearest diesel at Macinaggio 4.7 NM east. Booking ahead is wise and help with berthing is offered, though the welcome is reported as hit and miss. Bakery, small grocer and restaurants on the quay. Bus service to Bastia, 50 km south.
Ashore
Coastal footpath Sentier des Douaniers runs north from the port toward Barcaggio and the tip of Cap Corse. Quayside restaurants serve the local spiny lobster, among them A Macciotta for lobster pasta. Moulin Mattei windmill lookout at 6 km by road, restored 1954. Village of Cannelle on the ridge above, 2 km, with stone houses of the 17th and 18th centuries.
History
Centuri was the leading lobster landing port in France through most of the 20th century. Around 15 small trawlers still operate from the quay, landing Corsican spiny lobster, Palinurus elephas, sold directly to the harbour restaurants.
