Approach and anchoring

Approach from the W in clear water. Anchor on the broad sandy area in 5 to 8 metres, the patch nearest the harbour entrance channel being the surest. Beware the light-coloured patch just off the harbour entrance, which looks like sand but is rock with no hold, and the rocks in the middle of the bay. Avoid the Posidonia meadows, which rangers patrol and fine. Shelter from NE through SE, exposed to the prevailing W winds and to the libeccio; an easterly swell sets up an uncomfortable undertow even without wind. Centuri harbour lies 0.4 NM to the S and Barcaggio 3.2 NM to the NE around the cape.

Practical

No services at the anchorage. Water, ice and a small fuel berth at Centuri harbour, whose basin is reserved mainly for the local fishing fleet. Tenders can be left in the harbour, with no set spot, for instance by the harbourmaster's hut.

Ashore

Centuri is a small lobster-fishing port with several seafood restaurants on the quay, among them Le Langoustier, the local reference, and two grocery stores, 10 minutes on foot from the cove. The Sentier des Douaniers of Cap Corse passes above, with walks to Tour de l'Agnello and the Moulin Mattei viewpoint.

History

Centuri has been a fishing settlement since Roman times and remains one of the main spiny lobster ports of Corsica, with the local fleet landing catch from April to September.
