Guide
Approach and anchoring
Enter Ensenada Honda through the buoyed channel between the reefs, with clear leading marks. Anchor on sand just west of Cayo Pirata, in sand and weed. Sheltered from every direction except the southern sector.
Practical
Anchoring permitted, pontoon nearby for the tender. Dewey has groceries, restaurants and golf-cart rental. Water and rubbish disposal are at the town dock, and diesel comes by jerry can from the fuel station by the bridge.
History
Ensenada Honda has long been taken for one of the safest harbours in the Caribbean, yet Hurricane Hugo sank about 100 of the roughly 300 boats sheltering here in September 1989.
